About your trip

Painters season 2 - A must visit while visiting Seoul! This weekend I had the opportunity to watch The painters live in Seoul. Normally, I do not visit performances in Korea, but this show caught my attention for two reasons: 1. I'm interested in art of all kinds. 2. This show is non verbal, which makes it great for people who do not speak korean fluently (or at all) like me! And after coming back from this performance, I can say this show exeeded my expectations! Not only was I blown away by the pure talent of these men, I was also impressed by the way they managed to include different types of art in one performance. The combination of dance, painting, and taekwondo like moves was very interesting to see. Besides this, there were a lot of unique aspects when it comes to revealing the actual pieces of art. Altough beautiful during all stages, their illustrations and paintings are never as straight forward as they seem. These men are able to create art using several mediums, while dancing, making every scene different from the previous ones. It was fun to see a combination of traditional/old school and more modern paintings and illustrations. And not to forget, the addition of comedy is incredibly refreshing. During the comedy scenes, they also included the audience, which made it even funnier! After every scene, I found myself wondering how they could out-do themselves, and yet, everything they delivered! I would recommend this show to anyone who likes art like me, or to people who is looking for a performance anyone can enjoy! The show is increadibly fun, bright, and creative in ways I have not seen before! And for people who are worried that this show is "just watching people paint", nothing is what it seems and you may just find yourself enjoying the show!

TIP

The location for this particular showing was in the NH Art Hall. You can enter this hall via Seodaemun station, as it is located in the basement. After entering the building, make sure you turn right (away from the NH market) and go down the escalator.
