The tour includes walking, cooking activities, and a historical visit, so it is better to wear comfortable clothes. Also, some parts of Seodaemun Prison History Hall can feel emotionally heavy, so be ready for a meaningful experience, not just a light sightseeing tour.

I joined Funday Korea’s 6/6 K-History Tour, and it was one of the most meaningful cultural experiences I have had in Korea. The tour started at Yeongcheon Traditional Market, where we explored the local market atmosphere and tried traditional Korean snacks. After that, we joined a K-food cooking class, where we made gimbap and tteokbokki together. It was a warm and enjoyable way to experience Korean culture through food. After the market and cooking class, we moved to Seodaemun Prison History Hall. Before the main tour, we listened to songs related to Korea’s independence movement and traditional music, and also made a paper flower with the Korean flag. The most impressive part for me was the actors’ performance inside the prison. They showed scenes inspired by the stories of people who were imprisoned there, especially women who resisted and protected what they believed in. Watching the performance in the actual historical space made everything feel much more real and emotional. During the guided tour, I learned more about the history of Seodaemun Prison, which was opened in 1908 during the Japanese colonial period and used to imprison Korean independence activists. Walking through the prison, seeing the cells, records, and exhibitions made me feel the weight of Korea’s history more deeply. This tour was not only about food or sightseeing. It showed Korea through many layers: local culture, traditional food, music, performance, history, memory, and courage. I am very thankful to Funday Korea for organising such a meaningful and well-prepared programme.
This tour is perfect for foreigners who want to understand Korea beyond popular tourist spots. Be ready to enjoy Korean food and culture, but also to learn about a serious and emotional part of Korean history. The Seodaemun Prison part can feel heavy, but it is very important and unforgettable.
