About your trip

Ganghwa Island, just a short trip from Seoul, is often overlooked by tourists, but it offers a rich blend of history, culture, and scenic beauty. Our journey with K UNESCO took us through some of the island’s most fascinating sites, making for an unforgettable experience. We started at the Sochang Fabric Culture and Living Hall, where we rented beautiful hanboks, tried hands-on sewing, and participated in a traditional tea ceremony. Next, we visited the Donggwang Textile Cultural Center, exploring its unique textile exhibitions. One of the highlights was the Ganghwa Dolmen Sites (강화고인돌유적)—a UNESCO World Heritage site showcasing Korea’s ancient burial traditions. The massive stone structures left us in awe of the island’s prehistoric past. At the Ganghwa Natural History Museum, we gained insights into the island’s geological and ecological history before heading to the Ganghwa Peace Observatory, where we had a rare, crowd-free view of North Korea. Ganghwa Island is a must-visit for history buffs and culture lovers alike. If you’re looking for a peaceful yet enriching escape from Seoul, this hidden gem should be on your list!

TIP

1. Getting There • By Bus: Take an intercity bus from Seoul’s Sinchon Bus Terminal to Ganghwa Bus Terminal (about 1.5 hours). • By Car: Driving is the most convenient option, allowing flexibility to explore multiple sites. 2. Best Time to Visit • Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the best weather for sightseeing. • If you visit in summer, bring sun protection, as some sites have little shade. 3. What to Bring • Comfortable shoes (some sites require walking on uneven terrain) • Cash or a T-Money card for public transport • A camera to capture the island’s scenic views 5.
