BUS, SUBWAY, TRAIN
To welcome the first sunrise of 2025, we took the Education E-Train from Seoul to Donghae, departing late at night on December 31st. The train was lively with games and activities, and as midnight struck, we celebrated with a countdown. By early morning, we arrived at Samcheok Jangho Port, often called the “Naples of the East.” Waiting for the sunrise, we finally witnessed the breathtaking first light of the year at 7:37 am. After breakfast, we headed to Donghae Hot Spring, but instead of soaking in the baths, I explored the nearby beach instead of joining the hot springs. With its vast coastline and A cozy café with a vanilla latte became one of my favorite stops. Later, we visited Mukho Port, home to the East Coast’s largest fish market. While I skipped the seafood, I spent time exploring the port and seeing some beautiful views. As the day wrapped up, we warmed up with bungeoppang before heading back to Seoul. The return journey felt long, but the memories of an unforgettable start to the year made it all worthwhile. Here’s to 2025 being full of joy and adventure!
A good tip for this trip is to dress warmly and bring extra layers, as the early morning by the coast can be freezing. Also, pack some snacks in case meal options don’t suit your dietary needs. If you prefer a quieter sunrise experience, try finding a less crowded spot along the port for the best view!
