Things to Prepare

To make the most of a trip to Jinju, a bit of preparation is essential. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as Jinju’s key attractions, like the Jinju Fortress and the riverside paths, involve plenty of walking and exploring. Since the city’s weather can vary, it’s wise to check the forecast and bring suitable layers or rain gear if needed. Additionally, having a small backpack is helpful for carrying essentials like water, snacks, and a camera to capture Jinju’s scenic spots. Finally, learning a few basic Korean phrases for greetings and directions can enhance the experience, especially as Jinju has a more traditional, local atmosphere than bigger cities.

About your trip

My recent trip to Jinju was a beautiful mix of cultural heritage, traditional flavors, and scenic views. I started the journey by visiting Jinju Fortress, an impressive historical site that offers a glimpse into Korea's past. Walking around the fortress, I felt the historical depth and significance of the place. Next, I headed to the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Exhibition Hall, where I explored a fascinating collection of lanterns. The artistry and creativity in each lantern displayed were amazing, and it made me appreciate the rich festival culture unique to Jinju. Furthermore, I strolled along the Namgang River to see the famous Giant Hamo Lantern. The lanterns glowing against the night sky created a magical ambiance, and seeing them by the river made the experience even more enchanting. Lastly, I caught sight of a cruise ship gliding along Namgang, which added a serene touch to the whole scene. On the second day, I visited a traditional market in Jinju, where I strolled around and bought some delicious local snacks. I couldn't resist trying hotteok and some fried snacks, which were perfect for a quick bite while exploring the market's vibrant atmosphere. Overall, Jinju offered a perfect balance of history, culture, and beautiful landscapes. I will definitely revisit Jinju and highly recommend it to others seeking an enriching experience in South Korea.
