On a crisp morning, I joined a group of fellow foreign influencers in Seoul, all of us buzzing with excitement for what lay ahead: the Jeonnam Global Influencer Festival tour organized by Funday Korea Networks. Our destination was South Jeolla province, a region celebrated for its stunning landscapes, traditional cuisine, and cultural heritage. For us, the journey was as significant as the destination itself—a blend of culinary discovery, cultural immersion, and creative inspiration.
The Road to Jeonnam: Culinary Connections
Our adventure began with a scenic bus ride through South Korea’s countryside, with autumn colors painting the fields and hills around us. Our first stop was a traditional Korean restaurant, where we gathered around for a family-style meal. The table overflowed with banchan—colorful, varied side dishes that are a cornerstone of Korean dining.
We enjoyed haemultang, a bubbling hot, rich seafood soup with octopus, clams, and crab, along with plates of spicy stir-fried pork, grilled fish, and rice.
Between bites, conversations flowed as we got to know each other, shared our excitement about the festival and our experiences with Korean culture. The meal felt like more than just food—it was a cultural initiation into South Jeolla’s rich culinary traditions, and I was grateful for the chance to learn and connect with others over the region’s flavors.
Arrival at the Festival: Inspiration on the F1 Circuit Grounds
With appetites satisfied and spirits high, we continued on to the festival site in Yeongam, set on the grounds of South Korea’s F1 circuit. The modernity of the location contrasted with the traditional meal we had just shared, mirroring South Korea’s unique blend of old and new. The Jeonnam Global Influencer Festival itself was a grand affair, designed to showcase both South Korea’s rich heritage and its contemporary creative energy.
The festival kicked off with a panel discussion featuring popular Korean influencers and creators. I listened eagerly as they shared insights into their journeys and offered tips for content creation.
K-Pop and Celebration: An Evening of Music and Recognition
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the festival’s energy surged with a K-pop concert. The lineup included renowned acts like Ghost9, Wonstein, Apink, Badkiz, and Lee Jung, with each artist bringing their own sound and style. The stage lights, choreography, and infectious energy of the crowd made for an unforgettable experience.
Amid the music and excitement, the festival also celebrated the region’s beauty with an awards ceremony for a video contest, where influencers were recognized for showcasing the charms of South Jeolla, from scenic views to local traditions. As winners were announced, there was a sense of pride in the crowd—not only in individual talent but also in the region’s natural beauty.
Exploring Mokpo: A Glimpse of Coastal Beauty
The next day, we had the chance to explore Mokpo, a coastal city known for its serene views. A highlight of the day was visiting the Gohado Observatory, perched on a hill with panoramic views of the sea and Mokpo’s famous cable car. From this vantage point, the city unfolded below like a picturesque canvas, with sparkling waters meeting rugged hills.
With cameras and phones in hand, we took advantage of the scenic backdrop to capture content. Laughter echoed as we filmed reels and took photos, each of us adding our own style to the experience. The environment was truly inspiring, with the views and fresh sea air giving us new energy and creativity.
Farewell Feast: A Taste of Tradition Before Heading Home
Before heading back to Seoul, we stopped for one last meal at another traditional Korean restaurant, this time a buffet-style spread. The meal gave us a final opportunity to sample local flavors, reconnect with each other, and reflect on the past 24 hours. After eating, we took a moment to rest and grab a coffee, savoring the calm before our journey back.
As the bus wound its way back to the capital, we shared memories and stories. The tour had been more than just an event; it was a cultural experience filled with food, friendship, and shared moments. For each of us, the tour provided a fresh perspective, deepening our connection to Korea and expanding our appreciation for Jeonnam’s unique culture.
A Festival with Lasting Impact
For me, the Jeonnam Global Influencer Festival was an eye-opening experience that showcased the power of South Korea’s food, music, and natural beauty in creating connections and leaving lasting impressions. The tour, organized so thoughtfully by Funday Korea Networks, highlighted how cultural exchanges can resonate personally, shaping perspectives and building bridges between people from all backgrounds.
As the bus finally rolled into Seoul, the city lights signaling the end of the journey, I carried home not only the memories but also the essence of South Jeolla—a region where tradition meets innovation, and where the beauty of Korea shines in both its landscapes and its festivals. The Jeonnam Global Influencer Festival fulfilled its mission, celebrating and sharing the magic of Jeonnam with all of us and through us, with the world.
