About your trip

I spent the day exploring Andong through a cultural tour: distillery visit, soju tasting, market walk, traditional dinner, and even a performance with a bit of wine tasting. I learned so much about the craft behind Andong soju and left feeling truly inspired. I honestly didn’t have any expectations for the tour, but it ended up exceeding anything I could have imagined. Andong is such a beautiful place, a perfect getaway from the busy streets of Seoul, with breathtaking views everywhere you look. I would 100% go back (I kept thinking about how nice it would be to just sit there with a book and a hot drink). And yes… I also found out that Seventeen filmed In the Soop 2 there. It feels surreal knowing they walked the same places I did, and even rode the same tractor we did.

TIP

We rode a tractor up to Manggae Village, where our guide mentioned that Mr. Sunshine had been filmed — and once we arrived, the owner casually added that Seventeen’s In the Soop was shot there as well!! We could learn a bit about the village’s history and he showed us the cellar where their soju ages, traditionally in ceramic jars but now also in oak barrels for a more modern flavor profile. After a short lunch break, we headed to our next stop to learn the full soju-making process in detail, complete with a tasting. They even gifted us a small bottle to take home, which was such a thoughtful touch.

BUS

TIP

We took a short walk through downtown Andong and its traditional market, where our guide explained a bit about the city’s history and local foods. At one point, an ajusshi noticed our group and stopped to chat, sharing an unexpectedly in-depth story about Andong dating all the way back to the Goryeo Dynasty (and honestly, I really loved that he just popped up to explain everything).

TIP

Dinner was simply phenomenal. The restaurant itself was beautiful, and I couldn’t believe it had been booked exclusively for our tour group. The chef personally introduced the menu, explaining how each ingredient was thoughtfully sourced from local producers, and every dish was absolutely delicious. After dinner, we enjoyed a traditional performance paired with a small wine tasting. The atmosphere was incredible. The perfect way to end the day.
